End of the Dock

Linda Soller | Aug 15, 2022

I have started a new morning routine. My most recent routine began when the world went into our pandemic isolation. It’s time for a change. Each morning I will rise and weather depending, will have my coffee, then either take my walk or do yoga. My yoga studio was a victim of COVID, and online classes are logistically challenging for me. So, on this particular day I was sitting in front of my TV following a recorded yoga class when I turned, in my seated twist, to see the picture on the wall behind me. It’s a picture of a dock. The moody scene was not new, but my perspective was. As I stared at the picture, I found myself not thinking of the dock ending in the still lake but thinking of the dock as a beginning. A jumping off point. Like my new morning routine.

Faith is much like a dock. Faith gives you support and assurance as you move forward. Like a dock your faith has limits, that is unless you grow it and build on it. Some think they can declare they believe and that will equal faith and that wasn’t so hard. To a point they are correct. But faith is not stagnant. Faith grows and matures and deepens. Faith is just part of our relationship with God and as in any relationship it requires work to ensure the relationship will flourish. We must invest ourselves in the nurturing and growing of our faith. When we reach the edges of our faith we need to look beyond and reach for more.

As we move along the dock, whether strolling or running full tilt, we will come to the end. The water below the end of the dock may be murky, or clear, still, or flowing. The water might be freezing cold or warmed by the sun. It may be deep or shallow and the bottom may be rocky, or smooth. As we move forward into our future, we can’t always fully know what lies ahead. And when we reach the edges, whether along the way, or at the end we will have to decide if we will take that leap of faith.

Be the love in the world  :o)
