Old is New Again!

Linda Soller | Apr 19, 2021

Like so many businesses the company I work for basically went to an “all hands remote” arrangement with the pandemic. Gradually we have modified our schedules and while some still need to work from home, others of us have returned to the office. Once I had finished the two-week wait after my second vaccine, I decided to work in the office again, and reclaim my home office for my personal use. It is the old arrangement, the one I had for years, but it feels new. I actually found myself sort of settling in.  Just as though they were both new spaces.

I know you can imagine, because even those who were not actually working most likely made changes at home. Now when I look in the door of the “extra bedroom/craft room/reading room” it feels good not to see signs of my job. There is one less TV tray, fewer computer wires, my reading chair returned to its sunny corner. Ahh! So much more peaceful. At work I felt the need to tidy. Who stacked all that stuff on my desk anyway? Oh, right, me! After a day or two of cleaning in between calls, meetings, etc. my office also feels calmer. It looks the same as it did before the pandemic, but it feels different, newer.

Our church has returned to in the church service. We are meeting the requirements of our state, safety of our congregation first! We continue to live stream our services and Bible study, so everyone has the option of participating in some way. As always, our church has focused on the wellbeing of its members, its pastor, and the community. That is the old way of doing things, where people matter the most. But when I experience it now, it almost feels new. A concept that doesn’t know the word selfish.

What a year we have all had. I think I can honestly say we won’t forget it. And what an opportunity it has provided. Like starting fresh we have a chance to select from the old and embrace the new. Yes, so much of what was old and taken for granted is new again.

Have a great week! :o)
