See the Potential

There I was, sitting on my couch under a blanket, cup of hot tea in hand. There may have been a cookie involved. I sat watching as a couple, their designer, and contractor looked at two houses the couple could purchase.  Both houses looked rather rough. They looked tired and worn, with little outward appeal and even less magic on the inside. The inside was dark and sad looking. Both houses needed work. Then it was decision time!  They made their choice. Why did they select house B? They could “see the potential.” They had needed to hear the suggestions and vision of the designer.  They had required the reassurance of the contractor that it could be made wonderful. But in the end, what mattered was seeing the potential. 

You and I are like old houses. Our age may vary but sometimes, maybe more often than not, we feel worn out and tired. Our demeanor, attitude, and energy may not be very appealing to our friends and family. We have lost some of our “curb appeal”. We might say we have run out of magic on the inside too.  Maybe we feel dark and sad. Well, maybe we appear that way to everyone, except God. He looks at each of us and sees the potential. He is able to look beyond what we were, what we have gone through, where we are now and He sees the future. Our age and current state of repair don’t diminish His vision for us. He does not lack any confidence in helping us reach our goals. God looks at you and me and sees the potential. 

All we need to do is be receptive to His work, His vision, His word, and keep the faith.  He is the great Designer, and Builder. He makes things happen when we are crumbling and falling apart. I don’t know what you see when you look in the mirror, but I am confident God sees the potential you have to offer to the world.
