Something for Nothing

Linda Soller | Feb 04, 2019

A group at the office had a lunch meeting. Pizza was brought in. There were a couple of pizzas left which were placed in the lunchroom for anyone who wanted some. Word spread fast. Who doesn’t love something for nothing? This led to a discussion of why is it bagels, donuts, pizzas, and so on, seem to taste better when provided free at work? I’m not even a big bagel fan, but when they are provided at the office I always seem to enjoy one. I think it comes back to something for nothing. Most of us work a lot, work hard, try to follow the rules, and so when we can get something at no cost and with little to no effort, it just seems special.

Although they may not realize it some people approach their faith in the same way. You know that person, they don’t need to go to church to worship God. True statement, but God provided the church to help us explore and grow our faith. So, the effort on our part is to show up. There are those who say, I went to Sunday School / Bible study as a kid and I don’t need it anymore as an adult. I hope they are not confusing what they need with what they want. Don’t we all need to keep learning even if we don’t want to devote the time? Some will tell you that reading the Bible doesn’t seem to get them the answers they seek. There is so much in the Bible, the search is not fast, we need to persevere. If you were in a car nearly out of gas, would you just stop looking for a gas station? So why would you give up on the Bible.

There is only one thing I am certain we all get for nothing and that is God’s love and forgiveness. We may not deserve either in the eyes of man, but to God we are each special. This is the most amazing something for nothing I know. So why don’t we flock to Him? Why don’t we get more excited? Why don’t we tell others?

Have a great week?  :o) Linda
