Happy New Year!

Linda Soller | Jan 07, 2013

Well here it is a brand new year just a week old and already zooming by. We didn’t fall off the fiscal cliff although our country’s pride has taken a little tumble. It can really be frustrating. But enough about politics, I will let the news programs cover the chaos commonly referred to as Congress.

I was wondering how to best start the New Year with you. Yes you, the reader of this unassuming little blog. I wanted to say thank you for reading and I hope you will continue to do so. I know there are those of you who read every week and others who drop in now and then. Either way it is nice to know you are there. I feel like you deserve something in return for the warm feeling you provide me. This thought process brought to mind the song “Auld Lang Syne.”  Did you know it began as a poem by Robert Burns written in 1788, which was then set to the tune of a traditional folk song? It is also sung at funerals, graduations, and other functions to say goodbye and to honor friendships. Okay, so you knew all that, but did you know that the first line is a rhetorical question? Do we really want old times to be forgotten and never brought to mind?  Our memories and friendships are such a big part of who we are today.

This blog began as an extension of our Drop In class. Some of you learned about this blog when visiting FBC, some learned about it on Facebook or on the FBC website, while others of you heard about it from a Do Drop. All of us together form a community. We share a common bond, as simple as this bond might be. Our bond allows us to read and ponder our faith no matter where we are. The opportunity to share our lives with other believers is one of God’s greatest gifts.

To honor you, the readers, I have decided to give a “shout out” to some of you. I feel pretty certain that the Do Drops at FBC would approve of this first list of friends we would like to send our best wishes to for the New Year. So Happy New Year to David and Nancy M. in TN; Ronald and Cheryl C. in Denver; Meghan R. in Springfield, VA; Danny and Denise C. in Blue Ridge, GA; Gaylord and Karen H. in Leavenworth, WA; Stacey and Jo in Virginia Beach; and Ray and Jerry in NC. Thank you dear friends for your support. “We’ll take a cup of kindness yet, for auld lang syne.”

Have a great week :o) Linda
