The Big Dream

Linda Soller | Sep 04, 2012

What is there not to like about the Olympics? Okay, that is the way I began my last entry. I promise I will not talk about the Olympics forever.  In the Drop-In Class, just like in my last entry, we talked about the concept of being a Gold Medal Spectator. As with any class I usually have a point I hope to make. Sometimes something I say resonates with a Do Drop and I am struck by how different people can take part in one conversation and walk away with totally personal snippets of information. That Sunday  I pointed out that we can act on our dreams. We do not have to sit and watch others, we do not have to be spectators all the time. To drive the point home I mentioned that the 2012 Olympics clearly illustrated you are never too young or too old to have a dream. The world cheered as a 15-year-old swam 800 meters and had time to turn and watch her competitors swim to the finish, and a man in his 50s on an 16-year-old horse ran a flawless circuit in one of the equestrian events.  How young she must have been when she decided she could follow her dream. How many times do you think the rider rejected the idea that he and his horse were getting too old before they shared that shining moment?

After class that Sunday I went over to thank a couple of the visitors who had dropped in.  One of them said that what she was taking away from the lesson was “you are never too old to dream.” She said in her native country most people did not feel that way. She was excited to think that there were still so many possibilities open to her. She said she felt encouraged to learn something new.

Those Olympians had wonderful God-given gifts and big dreams. The visitor realized that she may have gifts and dreams which she has not allowed herself to own. Her dreams may or may not big to you and me, but they may be life fulfilling to her.  God has supplied you with the gifts. The question is, do you have a big dream?  Have a great week :o)
