The First Entry

Hello, and welcome to Drop In Online. It is with some trepidation that I begin this journey. Why? Well for one thing I am not a writer, which will be painfully evident if you have not already noticed. Secondly I was afraid that some might think I felt important, but I don’t, I feel blessed. For several years now I have lead a class at First Baptist Church of Herndon (FBCH) called the Drop In class. It is not a Bible study in the sense that I teach the Bible, for I am not trained to do that. It is a class where I try, in my layman way, to apply the teachings of the Bible to everyday life. I didn’t even dream it up! Our former Pastor (now retired in N.C.) felt it would be good if visitors could go to a class which was topical in nature and not intimidating in any way. He said it should be a class with value but one where people could relax and feel comfortable, where they could just drop in. Lately I have been thinking, why don’t we offer something similar to those who, for whatever reason, have not come to FBCH? Did I say we spend a fair amount of time laughing in class? Maybe I should have said that first, because the Drop In Class is all about the joy of faith.

My immediate plan is to write once a week. So call me lazy, but like most of you I have a busy life and would rather start small then over extend myself and let you down. In the next few weeks I will introduce you to FBCH. Don’t get excited, this is not a gossip column. One week I will tackle the question – Why Me? No, really, why am I writing a blog. One week we will learn more about the Drop In Class and the “Do-Drops” (the dear people who Do Drop In on Sundays and bless my life). After that it will be time to jump in to a few topics. Look for an email address in the not too distant future where you can share your thoughts with me. I will leave you each week with a thought or challenge. What have you got to lose – no one is watching you – so why not Drop In Online. Have a great week :o)
