The basic building block of a society is the family. A loving family honors the many gifts of God and communicates his love. Family gives us identity, a sense of belonging and hope for future. Family also teaches us generosity and forgiveness and daily practice of sharing. A family gives our life meaning. A nurturing community is formed by connecting families that are founded upon love. At First Baptist Church of Herndon, we are a growing family that thrives on caring for each other. We cherish the comfort it brings when we realize the value of togetherness under the grace of our Lord. This togetherness gives more enthusiasm to celebrate birthdays, holidays, and other important events of life.

We celebrate the children of our extended family. We know Jesus treasured children and their company.  He said that we must become like children to enter the Kingdom of Heaven (Matthew 18:3). The future of our families is the children as they are the gift of Lord described in Psalms 127:3-5:

Behold, children are a gift of the LORD,
The fruit of the womb is a reward.
Like arrows in the hand of a warrior,
So are the children of one's youth.
How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them.

Just as we pray at the dinner time with our family, we gather at our church to praise the Lord as a one big extended family of First Baptist Church. Romans 12:4-5 provides evidence that the church consists of many members as Paul says, “For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function,  so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.”

This verse exemplifies the belief of First Baptist Church of Herndon. It is described in I Corinthians 12:14-16 that each part of the body of Christ, the church, is made up of several members, “Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many. Now if the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body.  And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body, ” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body.” Therefore, every member and family is an integral part of FBCH  church body.

Looking a little deeper, we find in John 15:1-8, Jesus said, “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you.  Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me…”

The First Baptist Church of Herndon offers that vine from which we can grow. Caring and loving each other, we as a family can grow, both in spirituality and well grounded people. We provide a platform to express ourselves in the glory of our Lord.
