The Sound of Your Blessings

Listening to Canadian Geese zero in on the small pond behind our neighborhood, while the rain tapped at the window, my mind wandered to consider all the small ponds and creeks in the area where I live. They are a blessing. A few minutes later I could hear a siren in the distance. I wondered about its destination. An ambulance could be at a hospital in five, fifteen, or twenty minutes. If it was the siren of a fire truck, it wasn’t far from a well-equipped fire station. So many people who work to protect us. They are such a blessing. Next, I listened to the birds waking for the day. I recognized only a few of the calls. The noise grew with the passing minutes. As the sun rose and the late sleepers joined the conversation it promised to be a busy time at the feeder. So many birds. So much nature. We are so blessed.
All too often we can feel a little sorry for ourselves. It doesn’t take much to inspire our complaints. I need this, I wish I had that, when will I have an opportunity like they had, or what does it take to get what I want? It’s an easy trap to fall in to. Sometimes when you are out and about you might hear someone whining and you find yourself thinking I know how they feel.
We have talked before about being still so you can hear God. There is also something to be said for being still and listening for the sound of your blessings. You may feel you barely have enough. But in truth we are so blessed. You may not have all you want, but you may well have all you need. Perhaps when the frustration of unfulfilled dreams and the competition to have more, much more, becomes too draining you can pause for a minute. In that minute close your eyes, visualize your world, your routine, or your possessions. See the colors in the trees and sky. Feel the air moving about you and listen for the sound of your blessings.
Be kind, be brave, have faith! : ) Linda
