Wrapping up June
Linda Soller | Jun 02, 2014
While May was a month of national celebrations, June is a month of gift giving. Graduations, weddings, and Father’s Day all take place in June. Other months can claim special days related to gift giving, but June’s claim is pretty unique. Did I mention there are also birthdays in June! Let’s take graduations for example, everything from pre-school and kindergarten to graduate school. If your child is graduating you are almost guaranteed to get a few announcements from their friends. To be accurate some graduations do take place in May, especially the college related graduations, but we are looking at June here. When we think about high school graduations we tend to think of June. Then there are weddings. You may be off the hook for a number of years, but the June brides will eventually catch up with you. Much like graduations they seem to come in clumps and often in the same year you have weddings for your own children. When that happens you have gifts coming in and going out. Don’t forget Father’s Day. It was always a difficult day for me because my father had a June birthday so I had to think of two gifts. Why is it so hard to buy for men, or is that just me? Yes, June can be full of gift giving, and that means full of gift wrapping. Whoever came up with the idea of putting gifts in gift bags deserves a medal. All those years of my mediocre bows and crumpled corners are a thing of the past. I have fully embraced colorful bags and tissue paper.
June is also a month of transitions and transformations; spring becomes summer, pools are opening, schools are closing, kids are staying at home, and families are going on trips. At times, it seems like nothing will ever be the same, even the traffic improves. June is a month for other transformations as well. Those recently out of college are faced with finding jobs and being “grown-ups”, whatever that is. Students leaving high school and going off to work or college think they will suddenly be their own boss. In time they may decide being the boss isn’t all it was cracked up to be. Brides become wives, sometimes mothers, always partners, and suddenly they see that they are part of a team going forward. Being part of a team, be it a small team of two or a much bigger team, isn’t bad, but it’s certainly different. Men, young and old, become fathers. That’s a transformation for a lifetime.
Yes June is a special month. We prepare every day to face the milestones of our lives, but many of those milestones are reached in June. We look forward to the events of June with anticipation and once June has passed sometimes we feel a bit sad. June is mid-way through another year of our life. If you pause and remember the Junes of your lifetime you are certain to have some special memories. You may not be able to say that about many other months. June is warm, sunny, bright, cool, stormy, and damp. Yes, when it comes to months June pretty much has it all. If ever there was a special month that illustrates the transformations and accomplishments of life it would certainly be June. So this year why not wrap up the month of June? Make it the best gift ever for yourself and those around you. Come on, you know you deserve it, and so do they!
Have a great week! :o) Linda
