The Power of Routine

As a person of habit and routine I’ve come to rely on simply working within my patterns. So, when we have a week where there is no newsletter, and I don’t need to write a blog I struggle. I struggle with the urge to write my weekly blog, and I struggled again with the need to write one for this week. That is why I’m addressing the power of routine. Consider for a moment the internal power of routine. Perhaps you routinely walk every morning, come rain or shine. Maybe you always stop and have a cup of tea in the afternoon. There is always some sport to watch each Sunday afternoon. The nature of your routine may vary, but it can be powerful.
During the pandemic people were basically forced to change their routines. When it came to church you had two options. You could just drop going to church or you could watch it online. Regardless of what you did or why, when the church doors reopened you were faced with a new option. You could return to going to church. Yes, you could continue not to go or watch online. Churches recognized that many of those watching would prefer to keep that new routine. Churches large and small have experienced a sadly slow return to in person attendance. But there has been a return. Some people want to have the feeling of a shared worship experience. Some want to see their friends who feel much as a family. The reasons are as varied as the people, and none are wrong or right for all.
The Church is God’s family, we worship Him, we believe in Jesus as our savior, and in doing so we are connected. In some cases, more connected to church families than to blood families. No matter which routine you prescribe to I encourage you to challenge yourself to consider why. If you dropped going to church, it’s a good time to reconsider? If you watch online, perhaps in person would enhance your experience. If you returned through the doors does your routine include taking your faith back outside to the world?
The power of routine is strong and can be used well, it you let it.
Be strong in the Lord and be kind!
