Deadline

Linda Soller | Aug 04, 2025

If you love to do something like writing, or reading, or knitting, or gardening, or whatever your interest might be, there is nothing that can kill your enthusiasm faster than a deadline. The problem with a deadline is that it says whether you feel like it or not you need to get it done. A deadline means there is an end, and once there you will have to start again, or maybe miss your opportunity all-together. Deadlines loom as final, and intimidating. Creative juices and deadlines don’t always play well together.

Our faith is similar, but the actual deadline is unknown. So, we tend to put off what we could do today. There is always tomorrow.  I will read my Bible, starting tomorrow. I will pray more, starting tomorrow. I will be kind, generous, giving, neighborly, etc., tomorrow. Think for a minute if Jesus had taken that approach. Think of His short time on earth to get His message out. How much less would we know, how much less would He have accomplished if He had put things off. He had a deadline. He knew what waited for Him and so He acted faithfully and consistently.

Perhaps we need to consider our deadlines, not as a hindrance to our activities, but as an inspiration to make things happen and follow our faith.

Be strong in the Lord and be kind!
