So Many Words

Linda Soller | Jun 02, 2025

I am currently reading a book that has so many words. I read a little bit before bed and have to stop to digest all the words, make sense of them. What I have found is that with some time I feel like I have figured out the author’s objective. Then I ask myself why he had to use so many words. Unless I am totally off point, the gist of what he is saying is pretty straightforward. I can only guess that he feels the need to justify his point of view with a great deal of collaboration. Hmm. Like a college paper where the author wants to impress the professor with more. We all know that sometimes less is more.

When Jesus spoke to His disciples, He sometimes seemed to say things in a circle. I assume it was so that one way or the other the disciples would understand. It can make some verses a bit confusing to read. But when Jesus wanted to leave His disciples with a final all-consuming commandment, He told them to love one another. It can be a complex concept. At the same time, it’s straight forward. Simply love one another. It’s not so many words, so why is it so hard for us to understand and do?

Be strong in the Lord and be kind!
