Down the Road

Linda Soller | May 19, 2025

Our Book Bunch met on Sunday May 11, and yes, we knew it was Mother’s Day. But we voted to meet that day after Bible Study. What better way to spend the day than doing something you love with people who are important to you. Our book for discussion was “All My Knotted-Up Life” by Beth More. It’s an autobiography of a woman who followed her calling. The road was not easy, her life was not easy, her family was not easy, and her church turned on her. But still she followed the call. We Christians want desperately to believe that our lives will suddenly be easy once we accept Jesus as our Savior. He never promised that. He did promise to be there for us and with us.

Several weeks ago, Northstar had their annual Women’s Conference. There were three speakers who shared their personal stories. None of them had experienced “easy” faith, but all three have grown strong in their faith. I didn’t get to go to the conference, but I read the stories after the fact. They were inspiring. I seriously doubt any of these women thought God would use them or their challenges to reach other Christians. Clearly God had other plans. They must have felt called or compelled to tell their stories. The result is that the rest of us gain from them heeding that call.

The disciples did not always understand Jesus’ message. He must have felt frustration. But the disciples, the core group and the many others who believed, could see He was telling them something life changing. They were called to believe and to tell others. Jesus was so patient with them. He would repeat the lessons when they needed it. He would be authoritative when they needed it. Jesus called them to follow and in return He gave them unconditional love and forgiveness.

Life is not easy, we may not know how God will use us in His work, and at times following Him may feel hard. But know this, He will always be there for you, loving you, forgiving you, and calling you to come with Him down the road.

Be strong in the Lord and be kind!
