Choose Love

I grew up in a football fan home. I was well aware of which teams were winning and losing. But not so much lately. However, when a learned our own Washington Commanders were the Cinderella team of this year’s playoffs I could not stay away. So, I recorded the game against the Detroit Lions and told myself if we won, I would watch and if not, I would delete the recording. I had no intention of watching real time and being a jinx, I mean really. It was an exciting high scoring game. Sorry Lion fans.
Our young team has nerve and skill. For over thirty years our franchise has changed names, coaches, quarterbacks, and owners in a constant search for the magic combination that would turn them to winners. Even I know magic has nothing to do with it. I try hard to see God at work in my daily life. The more I look for Him the more I find Him. During the game when the cameras came in close on our team’s huddle you could read the words on the back neck guard of their helmets. This guard is there to protect them, and to my surprise it said, “Choose Love”. After the game I was impressed that our talented rookie quarterback managed to mention God three times in a two-minute interview. He said he loves God, he loves his teammates, and they all love the game.
After a thirty-year drought the Commanders could really only stay the same or get better. But this young team has chosen to get better. Part of that choice was selecting the message they would send by two simple words on their helmets. In plain view of cameras and young people and diehard fans of all ages.
I write this before they play their next game. I am not here to talk about who goes to the Super Bowl. I am here to say as we embark each day in our tough world, facing difficult challenges lets remember to praise God for all to hear and to Choose Love.
Be strong in the Lord and be kind!
Linda
PS – Dedicated respectfully to the Washington Commanders for using their fame to spread a message of love.
