What's Next?

Linda Soller | Jan 06, 2025

We had a thunderstorm on December 31st and a windy March-like day on January 1. And a thunder snowstorm on the 3rd. It begs the question, what’s next?

For those with New Year resolutions you know what is coming. We won’t even go there.

For those starting something like a new job, or living in a new community, or if you have lost someone in the last year, you are likely to be somewhat apprehensive. It’s okay to wonder what the change will be like. It can even be helpful to anticipate the changes and your responses. I suggest that in your considerations you take into account the good possibilities along with the not so good which seem to easily come to mind.

Perhaps you are a “tidy-up” person. For me, as much as I love the festive decorations of the holiday season, I do love to feel the calm that my decluttered house offers once those decorations have been put away. I started that process early this year, yearning to reach the calm sooner than later. I am tidying up gradually. It’s less exhausting and there are many small rewards.

You could be considering taking up a challenge. Maybe not a resolution, but more of a hunt for a creative outlet or new hobby. Personally, I think that is a great idea. A new year deserves a new effort of some kind. Key here is to know you are never too old to start something new. Not every option may still be available to you, all things considered, but there is something out there. Embrace it like a child with a new toy.

My final advice is to think about what is next for you, then take a tea break, or a nap, or read, or whatever briefly distracts you.  Start your day by thanking God you are alive and blessed. Go through your day with a smile and kindness. End your day by thanking God for all that happened, ask for His care for those who need it, and end with silence as you give God a chance to speak. Sometimes He may be quiet, but when He is not, He will help you understand what’s next.

Be strong in the Lord and be kind!
