Endless Supply

What would you select if you were told you could have an endless supply of something? Spoiler Alert: For our discussion money is not an option. So, what would you select? Would you go for food, clothing, shelter, or employment? All reasonable and practical choices. There is certainly value in many of the material things of life. You may be thinking about other things. Maybe you want courage, good health, friends, or inspiration. Others may ask for love, kindness, caring, hope, and maybe faith. Regardless of what you select there is a reason you made your particular selection. Your choice addresses a need which is real to you.
When Jesus was sending His disciples out to continue His work, He told them God would provide everything they needed as long as they continued His work. I feel certain, as mere humans, their minds went first to money, food, shelter, etc. Considering our creature comforts comes naturally to us. While I feel certain Jesus was concerned for the physical needs of His disciples, I am convinced that is not entirely what He was saying. I think, and some others would agree, that Jesus was referring to all the things that were needed to continue His work, including such things as endurance, dedication, kindness, hope, support, resilience, faith, and well you see where I am going with this.
When those who do not participate in the life of a church are asked, they often reply that all churches want is your money. There is a degree of truth in that statement. Churches need money because society requires it for survival. Churches have bills like the rest of us. But what most churches nurture is the continuation of God’s work. At times we resist doing God’s work because we feel we are lacking the needed skills, energy, inspiration, or faith. I think what Jesus was trying to tell His disciples, and now us, is that God can, does, and will continue to provide what we require to do His work in this world. I believe there is an endless supply of love, hope, and support coming to us from God. It’s exactly what we need.
Be kind, be brave, have faith! : ) Linda
