Creative Juices

All too often we fall into patterns. We basically dial life in. The predictable nature of this approach can be soothing, but it can also clog your creative juices. The amazing thing is that even simple adjustments can make a big difference. There’s a house I pass routinely. When the current owners moved in they did what many do, they filled their carport with stuff and gradually moved into their new home. When they had completed the process someone got creative. The question must have been, do we really want a carport or do we really want a patio? They went with the later, I call it a “Caportio.”  They hung curtains on the three open sides which can be open or closed. They furnished it with patio furniture and even though I don’t pass there everyday, I still see them using it pretty often. 

Just the other day it was warm but rainy. I was driving home from running errands when I noticed four people sitting and socializing on the “Caportio.” From the road they seemed to be enjoying themselves. I found myself wishing I had such a place, dry, and yet out in nature.  How creative! 

I think the same principles apply to our faith. Many are not comfortable proclaiming their faith for all to hear.  It’s fine if you can, but not so easy for most of us to do. Maybe we need to get our creativity involve. We may not be artist or musicians, but I think we all have a creative bone in our body. You may need to try a few different things to find yours. Even if you aren’t sure what direction that search will take you I am certain you will be able to identify what you aren’t good at. When that happens you just try something else. Maybe you will discover something you love that you never knew suited you. Putting yourself in new situations, new locations, with new people will give you the opportunity to live your faith in front of an entirely different audience.  Your efforts may become their inspiration. Who knows what direction your creative juices will flow!  But they won’t flow anywhere unless you try.
