What If?

Linda Soller | Aug 02, 2021

Perhaps you are one of those people who thinks what if…? I am. I think it’s the planner in me. You know, be prepared for everything. I remember as a young person wondering what if that friend moves away, or if I waited one more day to do xyz? Not really a worrier, I was focused on being prepared, and maybe a bit of self-protection.

For years, and I mean a fair number of years, our family has spent our vacation in the same general time frame at the same beach. The accommodations have changed, and the collection of people has varied but overall, the family vacation remained the same. In fact, we have been able to rent the same beach house for 20 years. It almost feels like ours. In true planner fashion I would bring up the question of what if we can’t stay in this house. The reasons I would propose varied, but all were plausible.  The reason it concerned me so was how much we enjoyed our location. I wondered how we would deal with a change. As we pulled into the drive of our rental this year, we saw the FOR-SALE sign. No one was happy to see it. Who knows if it will even be a rental? Maybe the price will be out of our range. How can we plan without finding ourselves in a bind on location and time? We called and got what few details we could, but our questions remain.

As we have enjoyed our vacation, the questions linger in the back of our minds, but we have elected to make the best of our now. We realize we can’t control the situation at this point, but we can work with what few options we have. In the big picture it is just one house at one beach. Yes, the house if full of memories, but those are not on the market. We could spend all our time asking questions that may not have an answers yet, working ourselves into a tizzy. But what if instead we focus on being grateful for the day we have?

Be the difference in the world! :o)
