True to Form

Linda Soller | Jun 28, 2021

Last week summer officially arrived. And true to form it was a hot sunny day followed by a stormy evening. Yep, that’s just what we expected. While we complain about the humidity and heat there is part of us that welcomes the familiar and another part that asks why it couldn’t be just a touch cooler, dryer, etc. Truth be known, the weather is not the only thing that spurs such mixed feelings.

I just read the book of Judges from the Bible for our Book Bunch reading group. Wow, there are a lot of names in Judges and lots of individual stories. But the plots are repetitive. God’s people mess up, ask for forgiveness, and He sends a judge to lead them to recovery. But true to form they quickly return to their old ways and stray from God. He must have been terribly disappointed each time He watched them slide into their old bad habits. I didn’t say He must have been surprised. I think He is the only one who is not surprised to see how low mankind can sink. He knows us all too well.

So here we are. Gradually emerging from our pandemic, but to a world that is looking a little different than anticipated. People are re-evaluating what they want to do with their lives, where and how they want to work, and who is important to them. How are you emerging? Are you better for the lessons learned, more humble, more appreciative of life and loved ones? Maybe you are feeling entitled to get back all you think was taken from you. In the shouting voices everywhere are you feeling overwhelmed, troubled, empowered, or forgiving? I suspect we are all feeling a bit of all these things. However, we must not lose sight of what being a Christian means. We believe God is watching over us and all others. We believe we should love and care for one another. We are charged to be understanding, forgiving, and supportive. Yes, we all know what God is looking for in His people, but the question remains; will you emerge as you were or true to form? Here’s your chance to be the difference in the world.

Be the difference in the world! :o)
