In This Moment

Linda Soller | Jan 04, 2021

There are days when I find myself thinking, “How did I get to this point?” My thoughts turn to all the slow unending days that magically clung together and turned into the past, which somehow flew by all too quickly. How can that be? But in this moment, it feels very real. Can it really be ten months ago that our lives as we knew them came to an abrupt stop? The isolation of each day now gives way to the disbelief of how long we have struggled to adapt. And most did adapt. In this moment, we feel pangs of hope creeping in despite our sense of loss.

In this moment, it would be easy to dwell on the past, after all it has provided so many novel challenges. But I feel like I got to this point looking to the future, not to the past. I admit to burying my head in the sand a few times when I could not believe what I was hearing and seeing in the world around me. There were many moments when I was concerned that our recovery from 2020 would be more work than we would be able to perform. But in this moment, I feel differently. In this moment, I can dream, be hopeful, be grateful, or be sad if I choose.

Each moment you make choices, you decide on a direction, you set your expectations, and you become something new. Something just the tiniest bit different, but hopefully in this moment you become something better. You could look back, you could grumble and whine, but in this moment, you could also be stronger, be optimistic, and be caring. In this moment, you can be better than the moment before. What will you be, in this moment?

Happy New Year! :o) Linda
