Signs of Life - Joy

The early morning walks in my neighborhood would be called quiet by most. But I call them noisy with the shouts of joy. The signs cry out Congratulations Waples Mill Elementary Class of 2020, Virginia Tech Here I Come, New Colgate Alum, and there are even the chirps of a large wooden stork in pale blue announcing a new life has arrived. These are clearly signs of joy, and I hear them loud and clear when I walk by. 

Too often we focus on the negative. I can do it too, but most of the time I choose not to. I think finding signs of joy is a choice. I could walk by and not read them. I could have the sounds of birds singing all around me and not pay attention. But I choose to see the signs and hear the songs. While on vacation we noticed a Halo Rainbow. They are not common, but they are beautiful. Our family was on vacation, something we thought long and hard about due to the coronavirus. This amazing rainbow reinforced the joy we felt in being together as an extended family.

There will always be pain and suffering. There will be those who whine and those who are cranky. We can put them to good use as inspiration to find the joy. We need to celebrate with each other any way we can. I don’t know the neighbors with the signs in their yards. I don’t need to know them to share their joy in starting the next phase, or the first phase, of life. Let the signs of joy bring a smile to your face and let them touch your heart. God is there in those signs encouraging each of us, we just have to look.
