In the Grand Scheme of Things

Linda Soller | Jul 01, 2019

It was only an office move, 10 minutes away, but for some the stress was getting to be too much. It was not under their control. Most of us struggle a bit with change. It could have been worse. The office could have been closing for good. In the grand scheme of things, it was a tiny bleep on the radar screen of life.

Do you ever feel like people (I mean – all those other people) seem to focus on the negative? They appear to get so upset over things they will most likely forget about all together. They add stress to their lives. They add stress to the lives of those around them. If you whine about stuff it might make you feel a bit better for a brief time. It might get you some additional attention. It might also make others feel worse and the attention you get may not be so good. In the grand scheme of things, is that how you want people to think of you?

This isn’t to say you can’t ever feel stressed or unhappy with stuff. It’s not to say you can’t ever complain or have an opinion that isn’t shared by others around you. I guess what I am saying is it might help if we all took a deep breath and considered the negativity we are tossing about just because we can. Just because we can, doesn’t mean we should.  Our negativity is unlikely to change our condition and will rarely inspire others to change it for us. But in the grand scheme of things a voice of reason, an opinion based on fact not emotion, or a thoughtful contribution will cool tempers, invoke consideration, and inspire others to rally and improve.

This week we celebrate the beginning of our country’s independence. A land of the free and the brave. A land built on religious freedom. A land with flaws and scares. A land of opportunity and challenge, but most importantly it’s a beacon to the world, a light at the end of the tunnel of oppression, a baby in history, and worthy of our care and attention. In the grand scheme of things, what this holiday represents is a pretty big deal.

Happy 4thof July America the Beautiful :o) Linda
