If Not Now - When?

Linda Soller | Apr 15, 2019

I stood in front of my closet deciding what to wear to work. A particular blouse was calling my name but the sleeve style, while lovely, had not proven to be practical for most situations. Then I thought, if not now, when? It was not doing me any good hanging in my closet. I put it on and headed off to work.

In the hustle bustle of our crazy world, we remain a bunch of procrastinators. We put stuff off, we delay decisions, and we figure we will get to things later. I am as guilty as the next person and for the life of me I don’t know why I do it. You would think we all have an indefinite amount of time here on earth with good health and adequate resources, but that is not how it is. In fact, we don’t have any idea of how long we have, if our health will fail, or if we’ll have the basic things of life we need. Yet we delay. But if not now, when?

I’m at that stage in life where one of my options to consider is “downsizing” my home and belongings. It’s a daunting task. So, I read “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up” by Marie Kondo. In her book she walks you through the process of decluttering your home and as a result your life. It seemed challenging, even overwhelming. Again, I asked myself if not now, when? So, I am working on it. It’s a start toward downsizing.

Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday are such special days in the life of a church. The church building is a buzz. People who rarely attend are sitting in the pews. In our hearts I think we all know how much we need and want to be close to God.  But for many, going to church routinely just doesn’t feel all that important, and there are all the other things they want to do. Those are personal choices. I know that faith is strengthened when shared with fellow believers. There is strength in numbers and there is a wealth of love and support available to each person who passes through the doors of a church to worship. So, I ask you. Are you going to church? If not now, when?

He is risen! :o) Linda
