Sometimes It Works

Linda Soller | Mar 18, 2019

Sometimes I feel like my blog deals with so much pain, but now and then there is something to smile about. A recent story described anolder couple in North Carolina who had a leaky roof. This was not just any leaky roof. The leaks required multiple tubs and dumping of those tubs to keep them in somewhat dry conditions. There was no money for repairs. Their dilemma made it to social media. Yes Virginia, there are good things about social media! What happened next will make you smile. A local businessman who owned a roofing/construction business fixed their roof for free. That is pretty great! When asked why, he had a simple answer. "Someone once said, 'If you take care of God's business, he'll take care of yours,'" Johnson said. "We just felt prompted to come out and serve our community." Sometimes it works. Sometimes the Sunday School, Bible reading, church going, love your neighbor life just works.

It didn’t stop there. Another company provided the materials for the roof and a third company came in and repaired the water damage inside the home. A community working together, sometimes it works. The elderly couple found it hard to even grasp the generosity they were experiencing. Little did they realize the impact their situation and gratitude had on the people around them. The opportunity they inadvertently provided gave inspiration to their community. Sometimes it works.

As we go into our tornado season we will no doubt see, experience, and hear about horrific destruction and unfortunately loss of life. But in the face of great loss and hardship comes great opportunity. We can spend our time complaining, blaming, and pointing fingers, or we can act. We can wait for others to serve us or we can apply all we know and believe to make the world a better place. Sometimes it will fail, but sometimes it works.

Have a great week?  :o) Linda
