Staying Thankful

Linda Soller | Nov 26, 2018

I have to say I truly love the Thanksgiving holiday. There is no gift giving involved, you spend time with friends and family, the food is great, and you focus on all the things you are thankful for. The truth is, staying thankful is not always easy. In the past Christmas shopping would rev up on Friday after Thanksgiving, but now it starts Thanksgiving Day. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good bargain and who doesn’t like receiving a Christmas gift? But I struggle with our inability to stay focused for even 24 hours on a holiday which has thankfulness at its heart.

Recently I forgot my reading glasses when I went to church. A friend in the choir had a pair in her purse to lend me. We laughed that I forgot them because I switched handbags and intended to grab a pair to better match my outfit. First world problems!  Later in the week I was having some yard work done, specifically things my husband and I no longer feel comfortable tackling. When I got home that night it was too dark to see everything, but we were not happy campers. I have to say I was overly emotional about the whole thing. The next morning as I worked on solutions, I actually teared up thinking of my vision verses the reality that was my front garden. Another first world problem!

Now as I type this blog I find I am gradually calming down. My prayers have been for calm and reason. My prayers have been to keep in mind all I am thankful for, all the many blessings in my life, and all the wonderful things yet to be. Staying thankful is not the easiest thing to do, but it’s absolutely worth the effort.

Count your blessings every day!  :o) Linda
