Where do I belong?

Linda Soller | Sep 10, 2018

Last week we talked about the longing to belong. Perhaps the harder step is answering the question, where do I belong? There is no easy answer. Have you heard the statement that you can’t reach the finish line if you never start the race? Part of what holds us all back from doing things we want to do and exploring opportunities is the hesitancy we feel in getting started.

You could start with a list. It can be on paper, on your computer, in your phone, or just in your head. No one need see it but you. List things you like to do, and things you want to do, and how you want to feel doing those things. Compare those lists and look for connections. Maybe you are connected to all things out of doors, or all things crafty, or travel, you get my drift. Once you see your connections it’s easier to identify a place to belong. Warning, all things listed will not connect. Example: I’m not a big traveler, but there are some places I would dearly love to visit. A travel group would not be a fit for me. With a little research you may find multiple locations where you might belong. It’s okay to be picky. There is no rule which says the first place you go, or group you visit must be the one and only.

Deciding to go to church and then deciding which church to go to can be approached much the same way.  Church is the place where you find others who share your faith and who can meet your need to belong. I have said it before, but there is no one perfect church. Each church reflects the current congregation. But churches offer support, comfort, and fellowship in a time when connections are so important to our sense of wellbeing. Check out websites, plan to visit here and there, and then ask yourself, where do I belong?  I think you will know it when you find it, but you’ll never find it if you don’t look.

Have a great week!  :o) Linda

Back to church Sunday is September 16th.  There is a place for you to belong.
