Love

Linda Soller | Jan 29, 2018

“Love in your heart wasn’t put there to stay. Love, isn’t love, till you give it away”.  Recognize this quote? If your answer is yes, I bet you didn’t know the author was Oscar Hammerstein II. Well, I didn’t know that. It’s part of a song explaining things are intended for a purpose and love should be given. Love is at once a wonderful word and an overused word. One minute it can have a life changing impact, “I love you, will you marry me?”  The next minute it can be silly, “I really love that TV show.” If we aren’t careful it will be used for the silly things too often, so as to be watered down. I love pizza, I love flannel, I love you. So, do I truly put you in the same category with pizza or an old shirt? You are thinking, that people understand what you mean. What if they don’t?

The other risk with love is that we hoard it. This brings us back to the quote. Do you give love away? When you say I love my family, do you mean it makes you feel good to have them as family, or does it mean you show them love?  When you say I love my friends, do you mean for what they can do for you and how they make you feel, or do you give them love through your support and caring? Now you see my concern. I am not sure everyone does understand what you mean when you say love. Do you connect love to things and how they make you feel or people and how you make them feel?

Lord help me show my love for You. Help me learn to give love as You have given love to me. Help me to understand the beauty of love is in the giving. Thank you for loving me, with all my faults and shortcomings. Thank you for giving me love.

Have a great week!  :o) Linda
