No Time for Indecision

Linda Soller | Dec 18, 2017

Indecision – definition: “The inability to make a decision quickly”. Recently, a member of the Drop-In class shared a list of paraprosdokians with me. What are they you ask? They are figures of speech in which the latter part of the sentence or phrase is surprising or unexpected and is frequently humorous.  For our discussion here, the one I like from the list is; “I used to be indecisive, but now I’m not so sure.” How often do you struggle with a decision?

The three Wise men in the Christmas story understood what was involved with making important decisions. They understood they would reach a time when they would have to act quickly. Indecision would not be an option. For years they had studied and anticipated the signs of the birth of the Lord. They had gathered information from the resources available to them. So, when they saw the bright star, there was no indecision, they headed toward it. The trip would have been long and challenging. They would have left much behind and headed to something only partially understood. Once in Bethlehem they were wise to follow social norms. They reached out to King Herod to let him know of their business in his territory. Yet this king was not to be trusted. After years of study and planning they made a sudden decision, a change of plans. They ignored the social norm and left Bethlehem without telling the King where they had found the baby. If they had been indecisive, the world might be a very different place.

Indecision – synonyms: Hesitancy, hesitation, and tentativeness. There is nothing wrong with planning, studying, and moving cautiously. But sometimes it’s time to decide, and to act. Every day we are given opportunities to make decisions. Some are life changing, and others not so much. At Christmas, we are reminded of the love of God, the joy of life, and the needs of the world. Some people focus on the receiving, while others focus on giving. The three Wise men traveled a long distance to give. What will you decide? There is no time for indecision.

Decide to follow the Star today!  :o) Linda
