Your Own Eclipse

Linda Soller | Aug 28, 2017

There was a hint of excitement when I arrived at the office. The air was filled with anticipation as my co-workers, professional adults, waited for the Solar Eclipse! I had friends and family members who had traveled to be in the line of totality, and I didn’t even have special viewing glasses. Let me just insert here that I am a nature admirer. I love to see the sun coming through the trees, the first lacey look of leaves in the spring, the magical dusting of snow, and well you see what I mean. I love to look at nature. And, while I am not out there hiking or camping, it was a bit surprising that I found myself so unprepared for watching the eclipse. What can I say? Life happened.

If we are not careful we will let the mundane, the ugly, and the terrible parts of life hide the light of all that is good and wonderful and exciting. Being alive is such a blessing we must not let those things that scare us eclipse the blessings we enjoy every day.  Indeed, we need to be sure to treasure the visuals of God at work. The smiles of our family and friends, the birth of babies, the height of a sunflower, a rainbow after the rain, are just a few shining examples of God’s love and support.

From the conference room, we could see the eclipse and my co-workers who had the correct glasses were eager to share. I got to see the eclipse first hand due to the kindness of someone who was better prepared than I was. It was a special day. For a short time, we all turned our attention to the heavens. We let the heavens eclipse the pain of our world.  Praise the Lord for his shining light!

Be bold in your faith, be courageous, and be prayerful!    :o)  Linda
