The Talk

Linda Soller | Aug 21, 2017

Have you had “the talk” with your children? No, not “that talk”. I mean the one you should be having with your children, family, and friends right now, regularly. The one where you condemn violence. The one where you remind them that God is color blind, and His love is to be shared. The one where you explain how evil is always wrong. Have you told them that God is supreme, but we humans are far from it? Have you explained that we all make mistakes and fail at times, but blaming other for our failures, our fears, is not the answer? Have you told them how it hurts your heart to see people disrespect other people and how you cry for the needless loss of young lives in our cities? Have you explained the anger you feel inside when elected officials are careless with their words and irresponsible in their actions? Did you add how you channel your anger through your peaceful right to vote? Have you described the ways you deal with frustration without resorting to bullying or badgering others? Have you described the way you pray for peace, for guidance, for understanding, and for courage to defend your faith? Do you ask them what they are feeling?

Christians must not hide from the world. The Bible tells us to be in the world sharing and teaching God’s love. There are plenty who teach hate. They blame history, society, statues, opportunity, education, peer pressure, money, etc. for what they lack. They fear owning their circumstances because it’s easier to place blame. We must teach our children to love, to be responsible, to honor good and despise evil, and to embrace their faith. We must show them how it’s done.

In a world that’s too dangerous for anything but love, have you had “the talk” with your children, family, and friends? If not yet, when?

Be bold in your faith, be courageous, and be prayerful!    :o)  Linda
