Simple may mean more

Linda Soller | Dec 03, 2012

The race is on, or maybe it just feels that way. December is really here, and the holiday frenzy is clearly underway.  Remember when Christmas could not come fast enough? Now I find myself wishing I had one, maybe two, extra weeks to prepare. I tell myself if there was just a little more time I would enjoy the holidays so much more.  Surely with an extra few days I could get everything wrapped with time to spare. Who am I kidding?  We all know better; there is always something that fills our day, that makes us rush from here to there, and that adds to our list of things to do. So how do we slow down, especially at this time of year?

Last week I talked about keeping it simple, but it is not always simple to make a change. We feel guilty when we drop that one activity off our calendar or when we cut back on the gifts we buy. You know, I think we may be looking at this the wrong way. Instead of focusing on what we can remove from our schedule we should be thinking of what we need to add to our schedule. You heard me right. Sometimes simple is about more not about less.

This week as you go through your already busy life try adding a few of these things to your day or night. Pause to admire the moon before you go to sleep. Promise yourself to smile at two strangers everyday. Resist the urge to beep your horn in traffic. Start your day by saying thank you for three people in your life.  Skip one latte and put the money in the red pail beside the person ringing that bell! End each day with a prayer thanking God for all the simple blessings that are part of your life, part of who you are.  At this special time of year there are simple things you can do and if you let them they will change your life. Have a great week :o) Linda
