More Lessons to Learn

The other day I received my nephew’s high school graduation announcement. On one side was his adorable face at his graduation from pre-school, in cap and gown, holding a diploma. I kid you not! On the other side his still adorable face, today, with small photos of him playing the sports he loves. It made me think of just how continuous our learning process is, from cradle to tomorrow, you never stop learning. You just don’t know how many tomorrows you will have.
Some of us try to avoid learning. We already have the answers and know what we need and what we want. This can be true for two year olds and 70 year olds. We are resistant to learning something new. Some of us want to learn, but have a tough time remembering from one lesson to the next. Like the child who is told for the fiftieth time to remove their muddy shoes at the door, they aren’t unable to learn, but they may not be focused on the lesson at the right time. There are those who go through life trying to learn new things all the time, who are excited by knowledge and change, and who grow tired of people who seem satisfied with the status quo. They don’t get why others might be comfortable with where they are and what they have. Whatever kind of learner you are, I think you will agree there are always more lessons to learn.
When Jesus walked through the countryside and the through the cities He was constantly teaching. He met those who were not interested in what He had to say. They knew it all. He had followers, disciples in fact, who needed to hear His message over and over again, and still they did not always understand. He had people who were eager to follow, but fast to flee to the next new idea, not realizing His answer was the only one they needed. The one consistent thing in Jesus’ teaching was that His lessons were for everyone. Stubborn, reluctant, or distracted, He took the time to share His lessons with all those who would hear. Some of us today may think we know all we need to know about faith and Christianity. But mark my word, there are more lessons for us all to learn, and put in practice. See you in church?
Have a great week! :o) Linda
